Phlebotomist training undergoes many basic learned skills including basic lab work, bedside skills, legal and ethical issues that surround the handling of blood, and blood drawing skills. It is important that your training cover all of these skills, because they will be an important aspect of obtaining your Phlebotomy license. In you phlebotomist training , you will have to be prepared to know and understand the basics of blood drawing, and the techniques involved in drawing blood.

There are two common methods of drawing blood that you will have to master. These two techniques include venipuncture and finger sticks. Finger sticks are used to collect small blood samples, and are very easy to perform. However, there are certain things to be careful of, which make the training important to go through. Venipuncture is the procedure most people visualize when they think of blood sampling, and it involves placing a needle into the vein to collect blood.

In certain phlebotomy courses, you will also receive training in how to take arterial blood, an additional skill which is useful in some situations. In addition to that, you will have to learn the bedside skills which are very important for a phlebotomist, because you are often the only member of a lab that patients interact with. A phlebotomist for a commercial lab also tries to keep patients calm and happy, so that they will continue to bring their business to that lab. Therefore, the more hands on training and experience you have, the better off you will be at mastering these skills.

Phlebotomist certificate gives a lot of responsibility to the phlebotomist. You will become a crucial part of the medical team, and a wonderful addition to have in any hospital or other type of medical clinic. In addition to the blood sampling and other responsibilities, you will be responsible for much of the upkeep in the everyday dealings within the medical field.
