After getting an associate's degree from a community college but still not being able to find a good job, you may want to consider radiologic training. People who attend a radiologic technology program enter a field that is highly in demand so the jobs are definitely out there. And if you already have an associate's degree, chances are that you have already completed all or most of the prerequisite coursework for the radiologic program.
These days an associate's degree doesn't get you what it used to, but there is no need to get discouraged with great programs out there for radiologic training to further your education. An average radiologic technology program will necessitate the completion of the following prerequisite courses:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer Literacy
- Elementary Algebra
- English 1A
- Human Structure and Function: Anatomy and Physiology Survey
- Medical Terminology.
A general associate's degree will include most of these courses, and with that degree combined with a radiologic program certificate you will be very marketable to potential employers. You will also need at least 15 credit hours of general education to complete an accredited radiologic technology program, which must be through credit-bearing courses taken at a college. You can take these required courses before or at the same time as the radiologic training, chosen from the following areas:
- Arts and humanities
- Information systems
- Mathematical/logical reasoning (required)
- Natural sciences
- Social/behavioral sciences
- Written/oral communications (required).
With an associate's degree, you will be well on your way to the requirements for a radiologic program. Completing this type of radiologic training will ensure a good job, which is why most people go to college in the first place. Getting a general associate's degree is great, but it isn't always as marketable to employers as you like - a radiologic technology program is. |
